1.    What is this FrenchStreet.ca®?

FrenchStreet.ca® is a unique collection of French resources designed to support educators, students and parents. This one-of-a-kind database provides French activities, programs and more that will enhance the French Second Language (FSL) experience in the classroom and in the community. FrenchStreet.ca® is another milestone in the efforts of Canadian Parents for French to build awareness and understanding of Francophone culture through active participation in community activities all around us. It was developed and is maintained by Canadian Parents for French.


2.    Who will benefit from the database?

Educators and families from all over Canada who can now easily access a searchable database to source a variety of opportunities to engage students as they learn French in a Core, Extended or Immersion program.


3.    How often is the database updated?

Canadian Parents for French is committed to providing a database that is accurate, up-to-date and comprehensive. However, we are unable to assume any liability resulting from errors or omissions. Inclusion or omission of a program or service is not a comment on its quality. To submit changes to your database entry, please visit our Be on FrenchStreet.ca® Page and submit your revisions.


4.    How do I find a specific organization in the database?

Type in the name of the specific organization that you are looking for in the Search Bar. Click on SEARCH located at the top left-hand side of the screen and the database will list all findings associated with that specific entry.


5.    How do I narrow down my search?

To narrow down your search, choose a category on the menu and choose from the options: LOCATION and GRADE. Once you have chosen a Province or Territory, you can make a selection from the drop-down list and choose a Region. To search for organizations offering services province-wide or territory-wide, select a specific province from the “LOCATION” drop-down menu and then choose “PROVINCE-WIDE” or “TERRITORY-WIDE” under the “REGIONS” drop-down menu.


6.    How do I search by city?

To search by city, click on one of the 9 headings and type a specific city in the Search Bar and click SEARCH. The database will produce a list of organization(s) that are either located in that city and/or service that city.


7.      How will the LOCATION search option help my search?

Each time you choose a LOCATION (Province and Territory ), some options of REGION will open up and the database will refine your search results to display organizations that provide services and support to the cities within the selected region. You can find a REGION in each Province and Territory option.


8.    How will the GRADE search option help my search?

When you chose the GRADE option, the database will refine your search results to display organizations that provide services and programs for a particular grade (Kindergarden to Grade 12). There are 6 choices of Grade and a Post-secondary option.


9.    How can I sort my search results?

Results can be sorted by the tabs DATE, A-Z (alphabetical), by your MOST RECENT SEARCH or by RATING located in the top right-hand corner of the screen. By default, search results are chronologically listed from most recent to older entries, keeping our viewer up-to-date. By clicking the appropriate tab option you are able to refine your search results. For example, selecting the “A-Z” option will alphabetically sort your results.


10. What does it mean to have a MyFrenchStreet™ account?

You can easily register to create your own account by using your email and a password. Then, you will be able to set up your preferences and see your favourites. You will also get some notifications from Canadian Parents for French.


11. How do I rate an organization and share the information?

The site allows educators, students and parents to rate their experiences with the listed organizations and/or share their findings. At the bottom of each description you will be able to share your experience through social media by clicking on the Email, Facebook and Twitter tabs. To rate your experience with the organization, click on the appropriate star (1 being poor and 5 being excellent). Your feedback will be added to our tallied results and published. You can also choose to have an organization under your Favourites by clicking on the little heart located on the top of the organization’s description.

12.  Are the “exchange” programs listed on the database a reciprocal exchange?

The database lists both exchange and cultural exchange programs. An exchange program is a mutual exchange where participants live with a host family and the participants’ family reciprocates and becomes a host family to another participant in the program. A cultural exchange program is not a mutual exchange. Participants live in a francophone community with a host family but the participants’ family does not reciprocate.


13. How can I update the information listed on the database? Or be added to the database?

Would you like your organization to be listed on the database? Or would you like to update some of your information in the database? You can do so for free by clicking on ‘Be on FrenchStreet.ca®’ located at the top right-hand side of the screen. Here you can fill out the form to be on FrenchStreet.ca® or update your information. Click this link to be redirected.


14. How can I advertise and have a banner on the site?

You can advertise by having your banners on the page that is matching your Province and Region. Advertising has a cost depending on the length of time you choose to advertise for. You can do so by clicking on the “Be on FrenchStreet.ca®” page, located at the top right-hand side of the screen, or Click this link to be redirected.
