Heather Huxter Memorial Story Writing Contest
In the spring of 2001, The Huxter Family and Canadian Parents for French – Newfoundland and Labrador announced a story writing contest in memory of Heather Huxter. The first annual contest, held during the fall of 2001, was extremely successful. There were 270 entries from French Immersion students in Grades 4, 5 and 6 representing most school districts in the province. Every year since, hundreds of students throughout the province take part in the story writing contest, coming up with the most amazing, funny, touching stories.
Those who knew Heather would agree that she was a very energetic and outgoing student who was always near the top of her class academically and admired by her peers for her enthusiasm and insight. Heather was very involved in her school’s French immersion program and loved writing and reading French stories. This contest is an effort to carry on Heather’s legacy by providing an opportunity for students her age to express their thoughts through writing in French.
